Lost in the Landscape

The works shown here were inspired by the committal of bodies to bogs in prehistoric Ireland, mostly sacrificial victims. Some are reactions to remains and archaeologists' records preserved in the Nationl Museum of Ireland. Others seek to return dignity and life to those interred in this way. Another group deals with the remains of infants committed to bogs in prehistoric times or, more recently, placed in wild burial sites called killeens, because the Catholic church forbade a place in its graveyards to those who were unbaptised.

For works relating bog body traditions to the victims of the Northern Ireland conflict, see Citizens? - Nation.
