Lost in the Landscape

For some time now, I've been thinking about those who suffer untimely, often violent deaths and how our memories of them are held in the landscape. The works that have resulted are multi-layered, bringing together images that relate to the bodies consigned to the Irish bogs down the centuries, to the victims of political violence in Ireland over the past forty years, and to those that I have lost in my own life.

The materials employed are largely soft pastel, charcoal and gouache, on cardboard and discarded pieces of wood and MDF. This has partly been due to environmental concerns. However, cardboard has snagged on my drawing materials in ways that suggest levels of history, or scribbled lines of obsessive text. Found boards have also brought their own imagery with them.
